Cimaruta

Cimaruta

Also called Witch’s Charm, and Cima di Ruta, is a protective charm, dating back to at least the 17th century, against the Evil Eye.  It depicts a variation of symbols including a key, dagger, blossom, moon, a rose, a hand holding a wand or sword, a flaming heart, a fish, a crescent moon, a snake, an owl, a plumed Medieval helmet, a Vervain flower blossom, a dolphin, a cock, and a crow. The Cimaruta, meaning sprig of rue, is mostly used in Italy and was used by witches as a sign of membership in the Witch-cult.
