Oracle of Visions
Oracle of Visions
A review of the Oracle of Visions cards and book written and illustrated by Ciro Marchetti.
By Ciro Marchetti
Oracle Deck: 52 Cards
Book: 140 pages
Card Size: 9.5cm x 13.8cm
The Oracle of Visions is a set of 52 cards and accompanying 140 page book. The box is a small pocket sized affair with simple lift off affair with space for the cards and book.
The LWB
The accompanying book is a small format book measuring 9.5cm wide and 13.8cm tall and has 140 pages. The first section is an introduction to the Oracle of Visions. The rest of the book concentrates on the each of the 52 cards in the oracle deck. Each card has a description, a relevant quote and meaning or interpretation of the card. The final section of the book has a guide on alternative interpretations, working with card combinations and more background by the author on the oracle deck.
The Cards
Being a fan of other tarot decks by Ciro Marchetti, I was eager to see how he would work with an oracle deck. The cards for this deck are huge, measuring 9.5cm x 13.8cm, each is fully illustrated in bright vibrant colours, and those who are fans of his illustrative style will not be disappionted. Each card is fully illustrated with a scene that depicts the cards meaning. At the top of each card is a number going from 1 to 52. The reverse of the cards features a intracate brass effect pattern with a jester motif. I can see many influences and sensibilites from steampunk within this deck.
Rather than list the entire deck, I'm just going to choose some selected ones:
1. A New Beginning
14. Creativity
29. Temptation
35. Solitude
42. Ambition
51. Messages
Intial Thoughts
I do like these oracle cards, if there is one thing that is missing, it would be a keyword printed on each card - something that would help trigger an interpretation, without the need to continually refering to the LWB. The cards are also on the large size, and even I struggled to shuffle them.
