Geographical Background
Ancient Egypt stretches from the Mediterranean in the North to the First Cataracts at Aswan, though if different periods it also controlled all the territories from the First to the Sixth Cataract (North of Khartoum).
The Nile
The Nile: It has been said of Egypt by Heredotus, an ancient Greek traveller, who wrote a history of Egypt, that 'Egypt is the gift of the Nile'.
Hapi
As a water god, Hapi was a deity of fertility - he provided water, food and the yearly inundation of the Nile. He was also known as Lord of the Fishes and Birds of the Marshes.
