Turton Tower

Turton Tower, Turton, Lancashire.
Turton Tower is a manor house in Chapeltown in North Turton, Borough of Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire, England. It is a scheduled ancient monument and Grade I Listed building.
The oldest part of the building is a stone pele tower built in the mid 15th century by the Orrells. Half timbered structures were also added by the Orrells during the Tudor and Stuart periods.
In 1628 the tower was bought by Humprey Chetham and during the civil war was used as a hostel by Roundhead troops. In the 18th and 19th centuries it passed to the Bland, Greene and Frere families, though rarely lived in by its owners.
The tower was bought by the Kay family in 1835 who revived and restored the building, adding a Dutch gable facade to the north-east wing amongst many other alterations. Between 1903 and 1930, the tower was owned by Sir Lees Knowles who used it as a hunting base. It then was given to Turton Urban District Council and was used as a town hall until 1974.
In 1987, Lancashire County Council took over the running of Turton Tower.

It is a lovely place in may ways to visit, haunted also, the Timberbottom skulls were housed there briefly, from Bradshaw.
I am not far away from this place, and although it looks lovely to the eye, I always feel uneasy.like at Chingle.
