Tammuz - God of food and vegetation.
Tammuz ("faithful or true son") was the name of a Sumerian god of food and vegetation. In Babylonia, the month Tammuz was established in honor of the God. His most common epithet was Sipad, meaning Shepherd, indicating a pastoral deity. There were two main festivals, one celebrating his marriage to the goddess Inanna, the other lamenting his death at the hands of demons from the netherworld.
