Apu - God or spirit of mountains.

Apu was a god or spirit of mountains and the important mountains all had their own Apu, and some of them receive sacrifices to bring out certain aspects of their being. These spirits live in both the middle and upper worlds, and can intercede for humanity. The apu also served as protectors, watching over their surrounding lands and protecting the people, livestock and crops.
