Sulis - Mother Goddess, Goddess of Healing Springs

Sulis

Sulis was a deity worshiped at the thermal spring of Bath. She was considered as a nourishing, life-giving mother goddess and as an effective agent of curses wished by her votaries. Curse tablets found at Bath appeal to Sulis to punish the perpetrators of the crime.

Curse Tablets

There were a lot of curse tablets found at Bath, many addressed to Sulla or Sulis Minerva.

Docilianus Tablet, a curse tablet found at Bath, which states:

'Docilianus...to the most holy goddess Sulis. I curse him who has stolen my hooded cloak, whether man or woman, whether slave or free, that...the goddess Sulis inflict death upon...and not allow him sleep or children now and in the future, until he has brought my hooded cloak to the temple of her divinity'.
