Virgo - The Virgin
Virgo - The Virgin - 23 August - 22 September
A Feminine, Mutable Earth sign.
The sixth sign, Virgo, is depicted as a young woman in the starry realms. Early Christians were quick to adapt this image, as a symbol of the Virgin Mary.
Byzantine and Renaissance artists often placed a star on the shoulder or head to represent the brightest star of the constellation of Virgo, alpha Virginis, whose traditional name Spica, means 'ear of corn'. Many images of Virgo are often shown as a young maiden holding a corn stalk in her hands.

Characteristics
Virgo is the sixth sign of the zodiac, a mutable earth sign. An important keyword for Virgo is service. Virgoans find people important, and often remain behind the scenes while the Leo's are taking the credit for the work the Virgo actually performed. They are interested in health and nutrition, and can become overly concerned with these matters to the extent of worrying. The ruling planet of Virgo is Mercury; the Mercury-ruled Gemini tends to see the forest and miss the trees, whereas Virgo sees the trees and misses the forest.
Hawaiian Astrology
MAHOE MUA - Virgin Pele. In Hawaiian mythology, is depicted by a woman as in Greek mythology, the mutable earthy sign of the Craftsman or Critic. The woman symbolizing Hawaii's MAHOE MUA is Pele, Hawaii's famous goddess of volcanoes, creator of Diamond Head, Haleakala and many other craters.
